Network-as-a-service (NaaS) technology allows companies to rapidly scale up and down to meet demand while cutting hardware costs and boosting security. As a subscription model, NaaS frees enterprises from having to own and maintain their own network infrastructure – and it allows them to shift spending from capital expenses to operating expenses. Though migration presents some challenges – including compatibility issues between a NaaS vendor's infrastructure and the client’s legacy systems – NaaS will continue to grow and mature wherever required network functions can be virtualized and cloud deployed, ISG’s Mark Allen told Network World.
